PM, UN Coordinator discuss humanitarian coordination

Prime Minister Ma’een Abdulmalik discussed on Tuesday with the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen Lisa Grande issues associated with humanitarian and political affairs.

They also discussed Houthi continuous obstacles for signing Sweden Agreement on withdrawal from Hodeida and its ports and opening roads before relief assistances.

The meeting tackled current coordination between the government and the United Nations for tackling humanitarian situation and opening tracks to relief assistances for alleviating people’s suffering over Houthi militia’s coup and their plots for deepening this tragedy for using it as political paper.

Prime Minister reaffirmed that Houthi militia is not serious for reaching to real peace and their participation in Sweden agreement and signing it came only after they felt they would be beaten in Hodeida and wanted to gain time for regrouping.

He stressed having strong position from the international community and the United Nations for pressing rebel Houthi militia, which is baked by Iran, for implementing Stockholm agreement and surrender to the UNSC’s resolution.

“If Houthis do not deterred by serious international and regional position, they will continue their reckless and irresponsible practices, neglecting the humanitarian crisis created by their coup against the state,” he said.

He pointed to the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Houthi-held areas and difficulty of people access to the relief and medical assistances in affected areas over the war imposed by Houthi militia and their continuous looting aid and referring them to their war effort.

He added that the government paid salaries of government’s employees in Hodeida and currently salaries of health sector employees in Houthi held-areas.

He touched upon government’s double efforts for improving economic situation and successes accomplished in keeping prices of local currency stable before foreign currencies within process of economic recovery and heading to development phase.

For her part, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator expressed her pleasure for meeting with Prime Minister and confirmed UN keenness on complete coordination with the government in different relief and humanitarian fields.
