Abyan… National Army retakes al-Mahfad district from STC militias

The National Army forces retook control on Thursday over al-Mahfad district in the southern province Abyan from the control of the Southern Transitional Council militias.

The army forces retook the al-Mahfad district after they raided several positions which the STC militias used to barricade themselves and carry out sabotage acts and attacks against the national army.

The army forces arrested several elements involved in the sabotage acts.

During the past days, the STC militias conducted a number of sabotage attempts and repeated provocations against the army forces.

These militias also obstructed the arrival of the 1st Presidential Protection Brigade to the temporary capital, Aden, as stipulated in the Riyadh Agreement.

In the context, the national army forces were attacked yesterday, Wednesday, by an armed ambush set up by STC militias in the mountainous area of Talayel, west of al-Mahfad district, leaving a number of soldiers martyred and injured.

The STC militias also intercepted an detachment belong to the 1st Presidential Protection Brigade in a flagrant violation of the Riyadh agreement.
