Threat of Al Houthi Continues in International Shipping in Bab al-Mandab

On Wednesday, unknown gunmen attacked un European oil tanker in Bab
Al-Mandab strait in the Red Sea.
This is the latest operation this year in the Strait of Bab al-Mandab,
which is passing through large amounts of world oil.
Bab al-Mandab Strait is essential to the global economy. Over 4.7 million barrels of oil transited the busy waterway each day.
The legitimate government, backed by the Arab coalition forces,
liberated the Bab al-Mandab area by a lightning operation early last
year and secured it completely after the liberation of the city and
the port of Al-Mukha earlier this year, but the dangers still threaten
this strategic region.
On Wednesday’s incident, the EU naval forces said in a statement that
the attackers fired rocket-propelled grenades at the tanker MT Moski
flying the flag of the Marshall Islands in the south of the Bab
Al-Mandab Strait. The tanker’s cargo is 70,362 tons.
The spokesman for the European naval force said the attack did not
appear to be carried out by pirates and was probably related to the
“continuing unrest in the sea off the coast of Yemen.” Referring to
Houthi-Saleh militias.
The spokesman’s statement made it clear that it contained a blaming
accusation of the coup militia, which carried out many similar attacks
on many ships in the same area during the previous period and the two
branches of the legitimate government control of the Bab al-Mandab
strait.
Observers have promised that, this operation is a serious and direct
threat to the international traffic in the Bab al-Mandab area, which
passes through about four million barrels of crude oil per day as well
as other commercial goods to Europe, the United States and Asia.
On this subject, the Chief of the General Staff, Major General
Mohammad Ali Al-Maqdashi, told the newspaper “Asharq Al-Awsat” that
the coalition forces succeeded in eliminating these booby-trapped
boats and mines planted in the sea.
National forces in the Midi front also seized a number of boats. Many mines have been dismantled and
removed from the sea to ensure the safety of maritime navigation in
which the militia are engaged. And carry out criminal acts aimed at
the safety and security of international navigation.
