Workshop on activating mechanisms to protect women from gender-based violence

The Ministry of Human Rights, with the support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, organized in the port city of Aden today, Tuesday,  a workshop on activating mechanisms to protect women from gender-based violence, in the framework of the ministry’s annual celebration of the International Women’s Day, 8 March.
The two-day workshop aims to provide 35 male and female representatives of civil society and relevant ministries with the skills of preparing the universal periodic review report and mechanisms to protect women from gender-based violence.
The Director General of Complaints and Communications at the Ministry of Human Rights, Imad Sinan, pointed out that the Ministry made determined efforts to eliminate discrimination against women in order to achieve equality in accordance with national laws and international standards .

He said that as the world is celebrating this Day, the Houthi rebel militia are stepping up violations of the rights of Yemeni women in the areas they control, indicating that the Ministry found that 170 women were kidnapped by Houthi elements during the past periods.
