The Iran-backed Houthi rebel militia seeks to tighten grip on the freedom and activities of Yemeni women through a recently established militia female apparatus, known as the “Fatimits”.
“Fatimits” is a term that means a group of women descending from Hashemite families (claiming relatives of the Prophet Muhammad).
According to the sources, the Houthi militia secretly formed a new women’s section of the “Fatimits” to target Yemeni women in the capital, Sana’a, and other cities still under militia control.
Yemeni local reports estimated that as many as 4,000 Houthi “Fatimits” could be trained in using weapons, driving combat vehicles, house raids and arrests.
