Army’s Chief of Staff receives phone call from the commander of the US Central Command

Army’s Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Saghir Bin Aziz, has received a phone call from the Commander of the US Central Command, General Michael Eric Corella on Thursday.

The discussion focused on the Yemeni-American bilateral relations and cooperation in all fields, including the role of the US Central Command and Navy in combating the smuggling of Iranian ships and weapons to Houthi militiamen.

Bin Aziz highlighted the key role that Yemeni army would play under the leadership of His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, noting the great efforts has been taken to unify the military institutions along with brotherly and friendly countries to contribute to  international peace and security.

He pointed to the Houthi ongoing breaching of the UN-led truce and repeated attacks on army sites, populated neighborhoods and civilian objects, in addition to its serious threats to Arab national security, international shipping lines, with the continued smuggling of weapons and Iranian support for their militia to carry out terrorist projects in the region.

For his part, the commander of the U.S. Central Command affirmed their support for  Yemen’s security and stability and continuation of joint  cooperation in the military and security fields as well as combating terrorism.
