Leadership council chairman receives US envoy
President Dr. Rashad Muhammad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Wednesday, the US Special Envoy for Yemen, Timothy Lenderking, to discuss developments in the Yemeni situation and efforts to revive the peace path in light of the intransigence of the Houthi militia supported by the Iranian regime.
The President of the Presidential Leadership Council was briefed by the US mediator on the results of his contacts with regional and international powers about ways to launch a comprehensive political process that guarantees the restoration of state institutions, prevents the recurrence of cycles of violence, and meets the aspirations of all Yemenis to build the secure future they deserve.
The President expressed his appreciation for the coordinated American efforts with the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the international community, in order to renew the humanitarian truce and build on it in making a just and comprehensive peace based on the references of the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and the relevant international resolutions, especially Resolution 2216. . The meeting touched on the humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the Houthi terrorist attacks on oil installations, its unilateral measures against the movement of individuals and basic commodities, including domestic gas, banking sector activities, and urgent international interventions to contain the repercussions of this escalation, and deter militias and their gross violations of human rights.
The meeting also discussed the results of the recent presidential talks with US Secretary of State, and the cautious progress in the United Nations plan to prevent the oil spill from the Safer tanker.
