The National Committee for Investigation into Alleged Human Rights Violations in Yemen conducted a field visit to Socotra Archipelago, meeting with local authorities to discuss human rights, security, and humanitarian issues.

The committee, led by Vice Chairman Judge Hussein Al-Mashdali, reviewed the protection of civil rights, freedoms, and basic services like education and healthcare. Discussions also covered environmental rights and abuses, given Socotra’s status as a UNESCO World Heritage natural site.

The committee toured Socotra’s central prison, meeting with 17 detainees and reviewing their legal situations.

The visit aims to address concerns about human rights in the archipelago, amidst challenges like seasonal isolation and limited access to basic services.
