His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) received today, Monday, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Republic of Yemen Abda Sharif.
They conferred over a range of topical issues, including Yemeni-British robust relations, the British and international support for the government’s efforts to achieve economic recovery and strengthen its capabilities, establish security and stability, joining efforts to address common threats, namely in the fields of counter-terrorism, organized crime and the protection of international navigation.
They also addressed the need to tighten sanctions on the Iranian-backed Houthi militias and deterring their serious human rights violations, the latest of which was the treacherous attack on a gathering of displaced persons in Heran District in Hajjah Governorate.
The Chairman of the PLC celebrated the deep historical relations between the two countries, highly appreciating the honorable British positions alongside the Yemeni people and its political leadership, greatly valued the role of the United Kingdom within the Security Council as the penholder and a key partner in supporting the peace process and humanitarian response.
The President also touched upon regional developments and unprecedented military escalation in the region, including blatant Iranian attacks on the countries of the region, as a natural result of the Iranian regime’s approach to exporting chaos and undermining regional and international stability.
President al-Alimi argued that what is happening nowadays is clearly demonstrating the destructive role of the Iranian regime and its rogue militias.
He said ” The stability of Yemen, the region and international maritime passages is contingent upon eliminating Houthi militias’ coup, restoring state institutions and extending the authority of the Yemeni government over all its territories.”
