G7: Developments in Yemen, Red Sea Constitute Threat to Regional Stability, Security, Freedom of Navigation

Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan and the EU High Representative have restated their commitment to Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, as well as to continue supporting the Yemeni government.

The G7, in a joint statement by their foreign ministers, also affirmed that developments in Yemen and the Red Sea pose a threat to regional stability and security, energy security, as well as navigation-related rights and freedoms, particularly freedom of navigation through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

The seven countries strongly condemned the attacks carried out by the Houthi terrorist militias against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including attacks targeting civilians and civilian and humanitarian infrastructure, expressing their solidarity with the Yemeni government and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The statement called on the Houthi militias to immediately stop all their military operations and attacks targeting civilian shipping, and to engage in good faith in efforts aimed at reaching a political solution to the conflict.

The G7 nations also called on Iran to end its support and arming of the Houthis, in accordance with the relevant Security Council resolutions.
