The Member of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi greatly praised the significant efforts of the UN Secretary-General António Guterres and his active role in mobilizing the international efforts to ease the suffering of the Yemeni people, to end the war and make peace.
” Thank very much Mr. Guterres, we’re deeply grateful to you, highly appreciate your interest in Yemen. Your significant efforts are greatly valued”, said al-Alimi.
He voiced his remarks during his talks today, Saturday, with the UN Secretary-General in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st General Assembly of the UN.
The PLC member al-Alimi talks with Guterres covered the ongoing military escalations by Iran-allied terrorist Houthi militias, the political, security and humanitarian situations in Yemen, the increasingly growing challenges facing the security of the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandeb Strait and international navigation and the UN efforts aimed to bring the war to its end and make peace.
They also addressed the humanitarian and economic consequences of the Houthi military escalation that has caused new waves of displacement and increased humanitarian needs.
The UN Chief confirmed the UN’s commitment to continue supporting the Yemeni people and backing all efforts aimed at addressing political, humanitarian and economic challenges.
Mr. Guterres once again called for the immediate and unconditional release of UN staff and humanitarian workers held by the Houthis.
