Foreign Minister Discusses Yemen Developments, Bilateral Cooperation with Turkish Envoy

Foreign Minister Dr. Afrah al-Zouba met Wednesday with Turkish Chargé d’Affaires to Yemen Dr. Emrullah Isler for talks on developments in Yemen and the wider region and ways to expand bilateral cooperation.

Al-Zouba expressed appreciation for Turkey’s support for Yemen’s constitutional legitimacy and its backing for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government. She stressed the need for closer political and diplomatic coordination between the two countries as regional and international developments unfold, particularly in support of efforts to restore state authority and strengthen regional stability.

The talks also covered the security implications of the Houthi militia’s escalation in Yemen and the wider region, including threats to shipping in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab and to international trade. Al-Zouba outlined government efforts to protect civilians, strengthen state institutions and restore security and stability.

She also warned that the militia’s indiscriminate missile launches pose a growing threat to civil aviation and international air traffic, putting civilian aircraft and passengers at serious risk.

Al-Zouba said Yemen looks forward to expanding cooperation with Turkey, particularly in strengthening state institutions and improving essential services to help alleviate the hardships facing citizens.

Isler reaffirmed Turkey’s support for the Yemeni government and for Yemen’s security, unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also expressed Ankara’s interest in further developing bilateral cooperation and supporting government efforts to restore state institutions and consolidate security and stability.
