Ambassador Mojawwar: Red Sea Security, Stability Depend on Restoring Yemen’s State Institutions and Sovereignty

Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the UN and international organizations in Geneva, Dr. Ali Mojawwar has said that lasting security and stability in the Red Sea depend on restoring Yemen’s state institutions and full sovereignty.

Speaking at the GAPS MENA high-level security dialogue in Geneva, he warned that treating Yemen crisis as merely a temporary maritime disturbance has failed to provide lasting stability and has allowed the Houthi militia to expand their military capabilities and threaten international shipping and global supply chains.

Mojawwar also warned of Houthi militia military activity near Mokha Port, the Bab al-Mandab Strait and Mayyun Island, as well as alleged weapons coordination with al-Shabaab in Somalia.

He called for stronger international security cooperation, emphasizing that international naval patrols and interception operations are temporary measures.

He said a sustainable solution requires empowering Yemen’s coast guard and navy to secure the country’s coastline and ports and combat smuggling.

He also called for urgent humanitarian assistance to civilians and displaced people affected by recent Houthi attacks along the western coast and in Taiz and Marib.
