The Yemeni Armed Forces announced Monday that government forces had taken control of Bab al-Mandab and Dhubab Airport in western Taiz Governorate after outflanking Houthi militia positions.

In a statement, Armed Forces spokesman Colonel Majed al-Nuzaili said the forces had launched the “Dawn of Yemen” operation on a broad scale to target Houthi personnel and military capabilities.

He said the Giants Brigades and Nation’s Shield Forces had secured Bab al-Mandab and cut the road linking Dhubab and Mokha, bringing it under fire control.

Hundreds of Houthi fighters are now encircled in Dhubab and have been called on to surrender to government forces, al-Nuzayli said. Some Houthi fighters managed to flee by sea aboard boats.

He confirmed that the “Dawn of Yemen” operation would continue to achieve its operational objectives.
