Saudi navy arrests 3 Iranian Revolutionary Guards off Saudi coast
The Saudi navy arrested three members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRG) on a boat seized on Friday evening when it approached the Morjan oilfield off the coast of the kingdom.
They were believed to be plotting to carry out a terrorist operation in Saudi territorial waters.
A statement issued by the Saudi Information Ministry said on Monday that the Saudi Royal Navy arrested three members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards who were on board a boat loaded with explosives heading towards an oil platform at Marjan field in the Arabian Gulf at 20:28 pm on Friday, June 16.
“The intention was to carry out a terrorist operation in Saudi territorial waters with the aim of causing serious damage to life and property,” the statement said.
Saudi authorities are currently questioning the three members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards who have been arrested.
The navy seized a boat loaded with weapons “for a sabotage target” was approaching the platforms of the Gulf oil field in the Gulf on Friday evening, The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported earlier.
