Awareness-raising campaign on mines risks launched in Shabwa

A 40-day campaign funded by UNICEF launched Thursday in Shabwa province to educate people on the dangers of landmines and explosive devices planted by Iran-backed Houthi militia.

Deputy Director of Mine Executive Center said they have trained well three field teams to the carry out the second phase of the awareness-raising programs that are targeting the people in Osailan, Baihan and Ein districts in Shabwa.

The Houthi militia planted large numbers of landmines and explosive devices in the province which have so far killed a large number of civilians.

Governmental sources and NGOs estimate that the Houthi rebels have planted more than one million landmines since the beginning of the war in 2015
