ISESCO denounces Houthis’ looting of precious books, manuscripts from Zabid library

Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ( ISESCO) has condemned on Sunday the Houthi militia’s looting of significant amount of historical books and precious manuscripts from Zabid’s historical library.
Director General ISESCO Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Tuwaijri said: ” The looted manuscripts and books represent a precious heritage documenting the history of Zabid city once the capital of Yemen from the 13th to the 15th century A.D.”
“The Houthi theft of such heritage is criminal act against the Yemeni civilization and a serious violation of Hugue international Convention which provides for protecting cultural heritage,” he said
Al-Tuwaijri called on the UN and international organizations mainly UNISCO to intervene and force the Houthi militia to return what it had stolen from the library,” yesterday, Sunday.
