Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Salim al-Khanbashi and Minister of Interior – Deputy prime minister Engineer Ahmed al-Maysary met on Sunday with the visiting British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt in the temporary capital Aden.
The meeting, which was attended by Foreign Minister Khaled al-Yamani, was devoted to discuss developments in Yemen and international efforts to bring peace to Yemen and to pressure on the Houthi militias to implement the Stockholm agreement.
Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior al-Maysary said the government was “too close to liberating the city of Hodeidah but it preferred to enter the Stockholm negotiations” in December.
Deputy Premier Al-Khanbashi said that as part of its interest to correct the economic irregularities resulting from the Houthi war the government had approved the state budget of 2019. He pointed out that the rebel militia are collecting revenues by the way of extortion in their areas of control.
For his part, the British Foreign Secretary emphasized his government’s support to political solution, noting the British £200m of aid pledged to Yemen in donor conference held in Geneva late last month.
