The Yemeni Media Freedom Observatory recorded 43 violations against media freedoms in Yemen during last February, 2018.
The Observatory said in a report issued Thursday that 35 of the total violations were committed in the Houthi militia-held capital, Sana’a.
“The abuses include three cases of abduction, one threat, issuing a circular not to dispose the property of 25 journalists and media outlets for confiscation, referring 10 journalists abducted by Houthi militias four years ago to the specialized criminal prosecution for trial and 4 other cases,” the report said.
The report said Houthi coup militia continues to hold 17 abducted journalists in their prisons in Sana’a and refuse to release them.
The SEMC-affiliated Observatory mentioned that Yemeni journalists continue to face systematic oppressive campaigns that force free voices to disappear, noting to many journalists are afraid to express their thoughts on media outlets and social media platforms.
