Spokesman of Yemeni national army Brig. Gen. Abdu Mujali accused Houthi militia of putting 30 prominent Yemeni businessmen under houses arrest in the capital Sana’a.
Mujali was quoted by Ashark awsat newspaper as saying that ” The thirty businessmen asked the legal government to get them out of Sana’a urgently, after receiving direct death threats from Houthi militia if they halt financing their war.”
The Iran-backed Houthi militia is forcing the businessmen to continue the financial influx for top militia leaders under the so-called “war effort” fund, the spokesman added.
“The government is trying to take them out of Sana’a and is very keen they don’t get hurt in the process.”
The government will save no effort to protect its citizens and it will work by all means to remove officials, bank managers and businessmen detained by Houthi militia illegally.”
Brig. Mujali explained that the businessmen are living in bad conditions and suffer systematic oppression.
He said the businessmen fear the Houthi militia would go ahead and execute the death threats, explaining the army is carefully dealing with the situation to maintain their safety.
