Arab countries welcomed on Monday the United States’ decision to classify the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
Yemen’s Foreign Ministry said that the move was a “step in the right direction because it will have a positive impact on regional and international security and peace.”
It said that the designation will push the Iranian regime to alter its policies and cease its destabilizing behavior in the region and meddling in the affairs of Arab countries, reported the Saba news agency.
The legitimate Yemeni government hoped that the designation will help “restore stability in the region,” calling on the international community to exert more pressure on Iran to “force it to respect its commitments as a member state of the United Nations.”
Bahrain welcomed on Monday the designation with its Foreign Ministry stressing the importance of this decision in addressing the dangerous role played by the IRGC in the region.
It said the IRGC was a “destabilizing force and a main contributor to the spread of violence and terrorism across the Middle East and the entire world.”
It reiterated its appreciation for the relentless efforts of the United States in confronting Iran’s “hostile and terrorist activities and its negative interference in the internal affairs of the region’s countries.”
It also expresses its hope for resolute and effective action by the international community to pressure Tehran to halt its support for terrorist organizations and militias, to respect the independence and sovereignty of states and to immediately stop undermining regional and international peace and security.
