Houthi militia has prevented a WFP’s aid shipment to unload its wheat flour cargo in Yemen. This came after the World Food Program threatened this week to suspend aid delivery in Houthi- held areas due to the militia’s theft of food aid.

WFP said Houthi militia blocked unloading of about 163 thousand aid flour bags under the pretext that the shipment violates the applied specifications, claiming also test results showed it contains insects.

The UN food agency noted that its warnings were a response to the increasing incidents of robbery of food aid by Houthi rebels.

In its letter the militia leadership, the WFP voiced deep concern over theft and diversion of food aid in areas under control of Houthi rebels.

Spokesperson of WFP stressed the imperative that the program works independently and chooses aid beneficiaries itself, calling Houthi militia to implement agreements.
