Deputy PM launches workshop on take care of aged people

A workshop on taking care of aged people has commenced activities on Wednesday here.

The workshop is organized by Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and financed by the United Nations Population Fund.  It lasts for two days.

The workshop, which is participated by a number of specialists and researchers, discusses issues regarding demographic data on aged people and Arab and International experiences in taking care of them. It also tackles services provided by health and social care to old people and their rights in regional and international accords, as well as national legislations for taking care of old people.

Launching the opening session, Deputy Prime Minister Salem al-Khanbashi confirmed significance of holding this workshop, which comes in implementation to Ministers Council’s decision on establishing the national committee for taking care of aged people.

He made it clear that the joint vision will crystalize from researches to be presented in the workshop.

He valued scientific efforts exerted for restoring the strategy, taking into account that the Yemeni society is still conservative and respects aged people.

Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Ibtihaj al-Kamal pointed to efforts exerted by her ministry for improving conditions of aged people via preparing the National Strategy for Aged and through evaluating their conditions, as well as making statistics on old people for recommendations helping preparation for the strategy.

Advisor of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Ghazi Abdullah delivered a speech, in which he pointed to aims of the workshop represented in analyzing the real situation of the old people and coming out with recommendations helping improve the National Strategy for the aged.
