Defense Minister participates on 3rd meeting of Defense Ministers in New York

Defense Minister, Lt. Gen. Mohamed Ali al-Maqdashi met Thursday with the Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, on the sidelines of the 3rd meeting of defense ministers held at the UN headquarters in New York.

The meeting aims to discuss the efforts exerted by the member states and their role to back international peace and security through their participation in UN peacekeeping missions.

Al-Maqdashi reviewed the exerted efforts by Yemeni government to achieve sustainable peace in accordance with the three terms of references.

For his part, the Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations praised all efforts made by the Yemeni government aimed at achieving peace in Yemen and its fruitful cooperation with the UN special team to support the implementation of the Hodeidah Agreement.

He stressed that the resumption of Yemen’s participation in peacekeeping forces will be considered in the near future.

Al-Maqdashi met also with the Indonesian Chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Johnny Suprianto.

They explored the possibility of benefiting from Indonesian expertise in the field of rehabilitation and training for the Yemeni armed forces.

Moreover, Al-Maqdashi discussed with British Ground Forces Commander-in-Chief Gen. Sir Nicholas Carter, the Yemeni government’s efforts in the fight against terrorism and the British government’s cooperation in supporting the Yemeni forces.

The meeting was attended by the head of the Intelligence and Reconnaissance Commission, Maj.Gen Ahmed Al-Yafei, acting permanent representative Marwan Ali Noman, military attaché Maj.Gen Mohammed Zeid and military adviser Colonel Mahmoud Al-Radfani.
