Saudi-led coalition stresses resolution 2216 as solution to Yemen crisis

Saudi-led coalition in Yemen stressed that a political solution for the Yemeni crisis is the best option to end the coup.
It said this could be achieved through Houthi compliance with Security Council resolution 2216, the Gulf initiative, and outcomes of the Yemeni comprehensive dialogue.
Coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki said the de-escalation announced by the militias means stopping terrorist acts in Bab al-Mandeb Strait that are threatening international shipping and trade.
In a press conference in Riyadh on Monday, Maliki said that the coalition supported the political solution, adding that the military solution would pressure Houthis to sit at the negotiating table.
He pointed out that the international community has expressed its willingness to solve the Yemeni crisis by political means through its resolution 2216, the Gulf initiative, and its implementation mechanism and outcomes of the Yemeni comprehensive dialogue.
The Iran-backed militias are threatening international navigation in the Red Sea and violating human rights in Yemen, Maliki noted, stressing that they should comply to the three references.
He expressed regret that a number of international media agencies were releasing misleading information published by Houthi- loyal media sites on controlling three brigades and capturing thousands of soldiers.
“This is regretful. International channels are quoting the terrorist coup militias’ media sites. It is inappropriate to have a response to such allegations. We know that this is a misleading media that fabricates incidents and attempts to mislead local, regional, and international public opinion,” Maliki said.
“On August 26, we explained the militias’ attempts to circumvent the Yemeni national army using human waves,” said Maliki, adding that terrorist elements were targeted with coalition air support, with more than 1,500 killed only during this attempt and 250 vehicles and trucks destroyed.
The coalition spokesman said militias continue to violate the Stockholm agreement with 7,697 violations so far. The number of ballistic missiles amounted to about 265 fired towards Saudi territory.
