The presidency of the Yemeni parliament said the religious tax the Houthi rebels imposed in northwestern Yemen is “a return to the (pre-1962) theocratic reign era” when the current rebels’ ancestors ruled the whole of Yemen.
In a statement, the presidency said the Houthi recent legislation to levy one-fifth tax on all resources to the benefit of the Houthi dynasty is racist and invalid. “It is meant to wrap up with the last step of the coup against the state, … and the principles of justice and equality.”
