Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Meets with ICRC Delegation
President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Sunday, at Ma’ashiq Palace, a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross headed by the ICRC Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Fabrizio Carboni and with him the head of ICRC delegation in Yemen, Daphnee Maret.
In the meeting, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the role of the International Committee of the Red Cross in alleviating the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people and protecting the victims of the war sparked by the Iran backed Houthi militia.
The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council encouraged the International Committee of the Red Cross to continue its coordinated humanitarian efforts with regional allies and international partners, and to push the Houthi militia towards seriously dealing with initiatives related to ending the suffering of thousands of detainees, abductees, and forcibly disappeared people in areas under its control by force, and at the forefront is revealing the fate of freedom fighter Muhammad Qahtan who is included in the UN Security Council resolution.
His Excellency the President acquainted the international delegation of the Committee of the Red Cross about the Houthi militias’ gross violations of human rights, including the suppression of voices opposing their sectarian and racist approach.
The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council stressed the keenness of the Council and the government to provide all forms of support to international organizations and humanitarian relief agencies, and to facilitate the delivery of their interventions to those who deserve them in various parts of the country.
