The head of Yemen’s Central Bank, Ahmed Ghalib, confirmed that the choice to cut ties with certain banks was a decision made by the country itself, not influenced by outside parties.

He underlined that the bank follows the law and acts independently when making decisions like this. Ghalib also mentioned the importance of discussing and finding solutions for issues in the banking sector.

He warned against using this decision for personal reasons and assured people that the affected banks are still operating in areas controlled by the government, safeguarding their money.

Ghalib explained that the decision was needed due to disruptions caused by Houthi militias in the banking system, which led to economic problems.

He restated the Central Bank’s commitment to following the law, protecting financial institutions, and working with international partners to help the people of Yemen.
