PM Zindani Discusses Humanitarian Response, Development Transition with UN Official

Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dr. Shaya Zindani met with Acting United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen Laurent Bukera to discuss prospects for expanding cooperation, assess the implementation of humanitarian response plans, and explore mechanisms for transitioning from emergency relief to sustainable development.

The meeting reviewed the partnership between the Yemeni government and UN agencies, as well as efforts to facilitate the work of international organizations and ensure aid reaches its intended beneficiaries. Discussions also addressed violations by the Houthi militia against humanitarian operations, the continued detention of UN personnel, and efforts to relocate the headquarters of UN agencies and international organizations to Aden.

Zindani reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with the United Nations and its agencies and programs in line with national priorities and citizens’ needs.

He highlighted the government’s ongoing economic, administrative, and financial reform agenda, stressing the need for greater UN and international support to help advance those efforts. He noted that the success of the reform program depends on genuine partnership with the international community focused on institution-building, capacity development, and enabling state institutions to better serve citizens.

For his part, Bukera praised the facilities and support provided by the Yemeni government to international missions and organizations operating in the country.

He reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to mobilizing additional international support to address funding shortfalls in the humanitarian response plan and stressed the importance of close coordination with the government to align humanitarian interventions with its economic recovery priorities.
