His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) called for a firmer international approach toward Iranian interventions in the region, based on applying simultaneous pressure on Tehran and its terrorist networks, cutting off their funding and weapons, alongside strengthening the capacities of national states and their legitimate institutions to protect their sovereignty and national security.
During his talks today, Monday, with German Ministry of Defense Secretary-General Nils Bolter, he said that the ongoing changes in the international stance toward the Iranian regime represent an opportunity to rebuild a more sustainable equation for regional security.
He added that the Yemeni experience provides one of the clearest examples of the dangers of armed groups growing outside state authority, gradually turning from an internal threat into a cross-border danger affecting ports, shipping routes, and international trade.
The President confirmed that the recent Houthi escalation against cities, ports, and civilian installations, including terrorist attacks on al-Mokha and Marib, reflects a desperate attempt to revive a policy of blackmail and test the Yemeni state’s resolve after years of calm supported by the international community.
He indicated that the armed forces have shown high efficiency and preparedness readiness, and will continue launching painful strikes on Houthi terrorist command centers, gathering points and elements across various fronts.
The Chairman of the PLC called on the international community to have a greater role in tracking weapons smuggling networks, components and military-use technology, and to tighten measures against individuals and entities involved in financing and arming terrorist groups.
It is very important to boost international cooperation to prevent these capabilities from reaching the Houthi militias, he remarked.
Al-Alimi also called for supporting the government’s capacities to protect the security of the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb, and sovereign ports.
The security of maritime routes cannot be ensured sustainably through international naval presence alone, but rather through a strong Yemeni state capable of extending its authority and protecting its coasts and territorial waters, he stressed.
He said that the Yemeni people cannot accept a model where there are official state institutions, while at the same time an armed group keeps weapons and independently decides when to fight and when to make peace, not to mention its connection to a cross-border destructive project.
The Chairman of the PLC highly praised the historical relations between the Republic of Yemen and the Federal Republic of Germany, deeply appreciating Berlin’s firm stance alongside the Yemeni people and their national institutions.
He expressed his hope to further develop the Yemeni-German partnership, especially in the areas of institutional, security and defense capacity building, as well as protecting maritime routes.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Afrah al-Zouba, the Director of the Presidency Office Dr. Yahya al-Shaibi and the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Yemen Thomas Schneider were in attendance.
