Prime Minister Receives Acting WFP Executive Director in Aden

Prime Minister Dr Shaya Zindani received on Tuesday in the interim capital Aden Acting Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Carl Skau, to discuss humanitarian cooperation and food security.

The meeting addressed the impact of Houthi attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, including rising transport and insurance costs and supply chain disruptions affecting food security and the flow of goods and humanitarian aid.

Dr Zindani praised WFP’s role in supporting vulnerable communities and stressed the importance of strengthening the partnership to improve aid delivery and gradually transition from emergency response to sustainable programmes.

He also highlighted the economic and humanitarian consequences of continued Houthi attacks on shipping and violations against humanitarian and UN personnel, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting aid workers and facilitating humanitarian operations.

Skau reaffirmed WFP’s commitment to continuing assistance in Yemen and strengthening coordination with the government to ensure aid reaches the areas and communities most in need.
