Yemeni Government Condemns Houthi Attempt to Target Mecca

September Net

The Yemeni government strongly condemned the Houthi militia’s attempt to target Mecca with a drone, which Saudi Royal Air Defense Forces intercepted and destroyed before it entered the holy city’s restricted airspace.

In a Cabinet statement, the government said the attack reflects the Houthis’ continued escalation and growing threat to regional security, Islamic holy sites and civilians. It expressed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and affirmed that the security of the Two Holy Mosques and the safety of pilgrims are red lines.

The government also backed all lawful and necessary measures announced by the Coalition to Support Legitimacy to counter Houthi threats and protect Saudi Arabia’s security.

It held the Houthis fully responsible for the escalation and accused Iran of continuing to arm and support the militia. The government called on the international community, the UN Security Council and the United Nations to take firm action to halt Houthi financing and arms supplies, including weapons and military expertise provided by Iran.
