Masam Removes 3,887 Mines and Explosive Remnants in 18 Days

The Masam Project for Landmine Clearance in Yemen removed 3,887 mines, unexploded ordnance and improvised explosive devices and cleared more than 611,000 square meters of contaminated land between September 1 and 18.

According to the project’s operations room, the clearance operations covered 3,252 items of unexploded ordnance, 573 anti-tank mines, 51 anti-personnel mines and 11 improvised explosive devices.

During the past week, Masam teams removed another 1,721 explosive remnants, including 1,592 unexploded ordnance items, 85 anti-tank mines and 44 anti-personnel mines. They also cleared 167,346 square meters of land.

In Midi District, the teams have removed 13,217 mines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices since beginning operations there, while clearing 4,888,143 square meters of land.

Masam Project Director Osama al-Qusaibi said the project’s teams had removed 592,212 mines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices across Yemen from the launch of operations in late June 2018 through September 18, 2026.

The cumulative figure includes 422,760 unexploded ordnance items, 153,049 anti-tank mines, 7,726 anti-personnel mines and 8,677 improvised explosive devices.

The project has also cleared a total of 85,614,461 square meters of Yemeni territory since its operations began.
