PLC Member Confers with British Minister of State over Developments in Yemen, Houthi Military Escalation

The Member of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi held talks today, Thursday, here in New York, with British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa Stephen Doughty over Yemeni-British bilateral relations and cooperation, the political, security and military developments in Yemen and the region, as well as the ongoing escalation by the Houthi terrorist militias and their threats to the security of the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb and international navigation.
Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi celebrated the Yemeni-British historical and strong relations, deeply appreciating the British supportive stance in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government and people.
“The UK’s continued support for the Yemeni people and state institutions are greatly valued”, he remarked..
Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi briefed Doughty on the developments in Yemen and the ongoing military escalation by the terrorist Houthi militias.
He made it clear that that recent events have once again shown that the militias threat is no longer an internal Yemeni issue , but has become a direct threat to the Yemeni state, neighboring countries, the security of the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb, as well as international trade and navigation.
The PLC’s Member underscored the importance of developing Yemeni-British cooperation in the areas of maritime security, combating terrorism and smuggling, upgrading the capabilities of the Yemeni Coast Guard, armed forces and security agencies.
Al-Alimi underlined the Yemen’s need for the continuation of the UK’s support to the Yemeni government and state institutions, calling on London to push for enforcing the UN Security Council’s resolutions regarding the Yemen and stopping the flow of Iranian arms and military support to the Houthi militias, and promoting a more effective international stance toward the threats facing Yemen, neighboring countries, and international maritime security.
The British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa confirmed his country’s interested in supporting the Yemeni government in various fields.
He reiterated the UK’s solidarity with Yemen and Saudi Arabia and strongly condemned the Houthi attacks and escalation.
