President al-Alimi: Armed Forces Capable of Taking Lead in Fighting, Eliminating Houthi Threat

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) confirmed the Yemeni people’s confidence in their armed forces and their ability to take the lead in the fighting against the terrorist Houthi militias and extend control over the entire national territory.
During his talks today, Thursday, with the United Kingdom’s Ambassador Abda Sharif, he said that international support for the Yemeni government, its armed forces and the public resistance is the most sustainable way to eliminate the Houthi threat backed by the Iranian regime.
He confirmed that the armed forces and all military formations have shown high efficiency in dealing with the Houthi escalation on multiple fronts, moving from containing terrorist attacks to take the lead in the fighting and demonstrate deterrence power.
He stated that the developments on the western coast were a tough test, but the armed forces maintained their cohesion and turned those developments into an opportunity to take the lead in the fight and unite ranks, Taiz has become a graveyard for the militias, likewise Marib, al-Dhale and other governorates.
The President reiterated the warning against continuing to deal with the Houthi militias with a logic of containment, saying that experience has proven that a ceasefire that doesn’t prevent rearming practically turns into new rounds of violence and destruction.
President al-Alimi stressed that sustainable security in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb is linked to the presence of a strong Yemeni state that controls its land, coasts and territorial waters.
Supporting the armed forces to restore its national institutions ‘is not just an investment in Yemen’s security, but in the security of trade, energy and global interests, al-Alimi stressed.
The President also called on the international community to build on the recent positions of the Security Council and the G7, moving from condemning Iran’s support for the Houthi militias to taking more effective measures to enforce the arms embargo, pursue smuggling and financing networks, and transfer military technology.
The Chairman of the PLC praised the active British role in supporting the Yemeni government, and the positions adopted by the United Kingdom at the Security Council and its communications with international partners, including holding the Houthi militias responsible for the escalation, affirming the right of the Republic of Yemen and Saudi Arabia to deter threats, and protecting their security and sovereignty according to international law.
He also praised the pivotal role of Saudi Arabia, its continued support for the government and the Yemeni people, as well as the Kingdom’s economic, humanitarian and developmental interventions, and backing for the reform program and improving basic services.
The British Ambassador briefed the President on the British support directed towards relief efforts and humanitarian response in Yemen, confirming her country’s ongoing commitment to support the Yemeni people and ease their humanitarian suffering.
She also reiterated the UK’s firm stance alongside the Yemeni people and their political leadership, supporting their efforts in facing current challenges, primarily protecting the security of the Red Sea and freedom of international navigation.
