Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad Mohammed al-Alimi has formally called on UN Secretary-General António Guterres to support international efforts through the Security Council to designate the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization, enforce the arms embargo, cut off its funding and weapons supplies, and hold its supporters accountable.
During a phone call, President al-Alimi briefed Guterres on Houthi attacks involving missiles and drones, assaults on civilian areas, the ongoing siege of Taiz and the detention of more than 70 UN employees, alongside the abduction of thousands of Yemeni citizens.
Al-Alimi stressed the need for the international community to move beyond condemnation and fully implement international resolutions, lift sieges on cities, and open safe routes for civilians and humanitarian aid.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a just and lasting peace based on international resolutions and Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Guterres strongly condemned Houthi attacks inside Yemen and across its borders, denounced the continued detention of UN personnel and other violations of international law, and reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to providing stronger support to the Yemeni government and Saudi Arabia in confronting these threats.
