The European Parliament called today, Thursday, on the EU Council to add the Houthi militias to the EU’s list of terrorist organizations, emphasizing its support for the internationally recognized Yemeni government and its commitment to Yemen’s security, sovereignty and territorial unity.

In a resolution regarding Houthi escalation and its repercussions on regional security, the Parliament demanded that the designation include both the political and military wings of the militias, their leaders and their military and security apparatus, alongside dismantling their funding channels and freezing their money and economic resources, as well as freezing funds of entities that facilitate their activities.

The resolution strongly condemned the Houthi attacks using missiles and drones on Saudi Arabia, as well as the military attacks carried out by the militias, describing them as serious violations of international law and humanitarian law.

The European Parliament also condemned the destabilizing role played by the Iranian regime, including the provision of weapons, missile and drone technology, training, and funding to the Houthis, as well as the coordination between the militias, Hezbollah and other Iran-backed armed groups.
