The local authority in Taiz has called for an urgent technical investigation into reports from the al-Aqroudh and Kahlan fronts alleging that Houthi forces used shells suspected of containing internationally banned toxic substances.
The reports indicate that civilians and resistance fighters previously suffered from suffocation, with some losing consciousness.
The authority called for medical documentation, identification of the substances and support from the UN and international bodies to establish the facts and hold those responsible accountable.
It warned against further escalation and urged measures to protect civilians, stressing that any proven violations would be pursued through legal mechanisms in accordance with international humanitarian law.
