The courageous members of the Armed Forces and Popular Resistance, along with all free Yemenis, are observing the ninth anniversary of the passing of the martyred, exceptional leader and guardian of the republic, the hero Major General Abdul-Rab al-Shadadi. He remains a republican symbol and a national leader whose legacy lives on in the hearts of generations. This was the commander who thwarted the Persian Houthi project and gave his life in defense of the nation and the republic. Together with his heroic comrades, he achieved great victories and a history full of heroism and sacrifice, which will remain etched in the memory of the people and future generations.

Speaking of Major General al-Shadadi’s sacrifices, his symbolism, and his stature in the hearts of Yemen’s free people and Armed Forces heroes is no simple or new topic. The history of this martyr cannot be overlooked, as he holds a place among the founders of the eternal September 26 Revolution.

The martyr al-Shadadi was a great man who chose his nation over his own life, deciding to devote himself to the defense of freedom, dignity, and equality. His confrontation with the theocratic Houthi militia stemmed from his profound belief in the freedom and dignity of his land and homeland. For this cause, he sacrificed his time, effort, and blood, dedicating his military and combat expertise and leadership skills to achieve the desired goal: protecting the homeland and rejecting injustice and tyranny.

A Rare Courage

Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Maqdashi, an advisor to the President of the Presidential Leadership Council for Defense and Security, wrote in a post on the occasion: “The heroic martyr Major General Abdul-Rab al-Shadadi did not betray his military honor. He remained steadfast on the battlefield until he was martyred, leaving behind the story of a great Yemeni hero, immortalized by history.” He added that the martyr “gave his life in defense of the revolution, the republic, and constitutional legitimacy. He was a beacon of freedom and a skilled military commander who protected the republican system and the will of the Yemeni people.”

He also noted that al-Shadadi was martyred alongside the finest of commanders, whose pure blood has become a shining torch illuminating the path of freedom and dignity for generations. These leaders were not seeking position or status; they were men of principle and the battlefield who offered their lives with the steadfastness of mountains.

An Exemplary Leader

Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Dr. Mohsen Al-Daari, the Minister of Defense, stated in a tweet that Major General Abdul-Rab al-Shadadi was one of the most prominent national army leaders who, with their blood and sacrifices, wrote epics of devotion in the battles to defend the nation and the republic.

The Minister said: “On this immortal anniversary, we recall the biography of an exceptional knight, who was an example of courage and pride during the most critical moments in our country’s history.” He pointed out that he knew the martyr closely as a bold and valiant leader who united hearts, rallied ranks, and mobilized free men from all directions. He fought the battle of dignity with absolute steadfastness and courage, writing victory epics that broke the strength of the Houthi militia.

The Founder

Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Kumim wrote: “In the history of the republic, some names are mentioned, while others are written. As for Abdul-Rab al-Shadadi, his name was carved into the conscience of the homeland with letters of fire and light.” He affirmed that al-Shadadi was the founder of the new army and the guardian of the republic, a commander who did not wait for an order to act because his blood was the order and his faith was the directive. He was not merely a soldier but a doctrine of patriotism and a school of courage.

Widely Honored

The ninth anniversary of his martyrdom was widely commemorated on social media platforms by activists and officials. Bloggers also published never-before-seen video clips of the Major General, showing his resolve, courage, and leadership at the front lines. The clips depicted him sharing meals with his soldiers and meeting with military and governmental leaders in the mountains and trenches west of Marib, which he and his comrades were the primary defense line for. They succeeded, along with a group of heroes, in repelling the Houthi terrorist militias.
