Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Ahmed Bin Dagher met today, Monday, with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg to discuss the ongoing developments on the national scene and the efforts being made to eliminate the Houthi coup and restore state institutions, amidst the ongoing military escalation by Houthi militias in several fronts and its impact on the security of Yemen and the region.

Bin Dagher briefed the UN envoy on the recent field developments and the ongoing Houthi military escalation in the besieged Taiz governorate, the western coast and other fronts over the recent weeks, as well as the resulting attacks and violations against civilians.

The Speaker of the Shura Council underscored the importance of stopping these attacks, lifting the blockade on the city of Taiz, alleviating the suffering of its residents, ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches them and protecting civilians and civilian facilities, praising the heroic resilience of the province’s people.

He called on the international community and the United Nations to act to stop the Houthi attacks, protect civilian facilities and sea routes and take deterrent measures that compel the militia to stop its escalation and violations and comply with international legitimacy decisions.

Bin Dagher confirmed that the ‘Yemen Dawn’ operation will continue until the Houthi militias lay down their arms, stop killing citizens and agree to return to the negotiation table based on nationally, regionally and internationally agreed-upon references.

The UN envoy cited the efforts and initiatives of the United Nations aimed at advancing the political process in Yemen, affirming the continued work with various parties to reach solutions that help end the crisis and alleviate humanitarian suffering.
