The National Organization of Yemeni Media professionals ( Sada) has monitored 4288 violations committed by Houthi militia against Yemeni journalists and media staff during 2018.

In its second annual report released yesterday ,Saturday, at press conference in Marib, the NGO said that 4248 of the abuses occurred in Sana’a, which is under the militia’s control, followed by Dhamar province with 7 violations.

The report, titled “killing witnesses”, said that 18 journalists and media workers were killed, 14  injured and disabled. 27 journalists are still in prisons and detentions, some of whom for four years.

The report has called on all international organizations and human rights activists to intervene and save the 25 Yemeni journalists  being detained in Houthi militia’s jails.

It pointed out that 14 of the (25) journalists have been in prisons for four years. And their only crime is that they are journalists.

The report also mentioned that dozens of newspapers, websites and media outlets have stopped working in the militia-held capital, Sana’a.

“Nothing new can be told about the reality of journalism in Yemen except violations and abuses against it, amid international  silence towards violators of press and media in Yemen,” the statement said.
