Houthis killed a truck driver in Hays town south of Hodeidah after he declined to pay illegal tariffs to the rebel militia.

Local sources said that Houthi militants at a checkpoint in the south of Hays shot at a driver of truck packed food stuffs heading to the district center.

“The militiamen wanted money from him but he refused. So they killed him immediately,” the sources added.

Houthi militia continues to impose illegal levies and taxes on drivers and vehicles carrying goods in areas they control. However, those who refuse to pay get killed or robbed or detained by the militia and release only after huge money ransom is paid.
