Al-Erada Confers with U.S. Ambassador on Security, Peace, and Economic Issues

Member of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Sultan Al-Erada met on Sunday with the U.S. Ambassador to Yemen, Steven Fagin, to discuss bilateral relations and areas of cooperation.

The talks addressed political and military developments, UN-led peace efforts, and the continued intransigence of the Houthi militias, which persist in rejecting regional and international initiatives while escalating military operations on several fronts.

Al-Erada reaffirmed the Yemeni leadership’s commitment to a sustainable peace based on the three agreed-upon references for peace, describing them as the only path to ending the suffering of the Yemeni people.

He emphasized that the ongoing military and security challenges, particularly the attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi militias, threaten not only Yemen but also regional stability, international shipping, and global trade in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

The PLC member also highlighted the severe economic challenges caused by the halt in oil exports, which has deprived the state of its main source of revenue and negatively impacted the national budget and basic services. He urged the international community—especially the United States—to increase its support for Yemen’s government, strengthen state institutions, fund economic recovery programs, and help restore economic stability.

Ambassador Fagin reiterated the U.S. administration’s support for the PLC and the Yemeni government, stressing Washington’s commitment to advancing peace efforts, enhancing bilateral cooperation, and providing assistance to ease the suffering of the Yemeni people.
