U.S. Treasury Sanctions 32 Houthis-Linked Individuals, Entities, and 4 Vessels

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on Thursday imposed sanctions on 32 individuals and entities, along with four ships, in its largest action yet against Iran-backed Houthi militias.

The Treasury said the targeted networks span Yemen, China, the UAE, and the Marshall Islands, and are involved in financing and facilitating the Houthis’ global operations, including weapons smuggling and procurement.

According to the statement, these networks support the Houthis’ acquisition of advanced military technology such as ballistic and cruise missile components and drones—used in attacks against U.S. forces, allies, and international shipping in the Red Sea, threatening global trade and civilian lives.

Deputy Assistant Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence John Hurley said the Houthis “continue to threaten U.S. persons and assets in the Red Sea, attack our allies in the region, and undermine maritime security in coordination with the Iranian regime.” He added, “We will continue to exert maximum pressure on those who threaten the security of the United States and the region.”
