Griffiths’ remarks ‘not commensurate with’ Houthi captive execution orders
Yemen’s Information Minister said the UN Special Envoy’s remarks on the recent Houthi death sentences against 30 oppositionists including politicians activists are “not commensurate with the magnitude of the Houthi crime.”
Muammar al-Eryani made the statement to Saba criticizing Griffiths’ remarks regarding the rebel militia’s verdicts of death sentences against 30 politicians, journalists and other peaceful activists detained in Sana’a for years.
“‘Concern’ alone is not enough,” al-Eryani said. “It is required from the envoy to condemn the militia’s ruling to (illegally) execute’ the detainees, he added.
He called on the envoy to press the militia to stop those verdicts and to push for the prisoner swap as per the peace consultations in Switzerland.
“How can the UN envoy assure the Yemenis that he able to reveal the truth … if he avoids condemning the Iran-backed militia,” al-Eryani inquired.
