Human Rights Minister Mohammed Askr said that Houthi militia has killed 123 people and wound 627 other including women and children, since the UN-sponsored ceasefire in Hodeida was announced on December 18, 2018 until 11 March, 2019.
In a Seminar entitled “Yemen between peace efforts and Human Rights Violations” organized by Yemen Permanent Mission in Geneva and his Ministry on the sidelines of the 40th round of Human Rights Council, Askr said the rebel militia made 1943 direct and indirect violations against the truce in Hodeida in the same period.
He said that the militia took advantage of the peace talks and the UN pressure to halt the battle for taking over Hodeida by opening a new front in Hajoor region in Hajjah province, where they have committed genocides against residents there
He said “after a 50-day-long siege, Houthi militia stormed the tribal areas in Hajoor, killed more than 62 civilians and injured 217 others, including women and children, forcibly displaced more than 4,000 families, blew up to ground 24 houses, destroyed fully and partially, over 1379 houses, 123 farms, 5 markets, a school and a mosque, and blocked entry of food stuffs and medical supplies to the besieged civilians.”
The Minster said the Houthi rebels are using the truce in reinforcing its positions, digging trenches, blocking roads and planting landing mines, and shelling civilians and their houses continually in the city of Hodeida.
He noted to the militias bombing of the Red Sea Mills that destroyed 25 percent of the grain stock, which was enough to feed for nearly 3 million hungry people, in apparent intent to increase and exacerbate people’s suffering, as well as the rebels’ attack on the UN team and denying entry of humanitarian assistances in Hodeida.
